Welcome to New Start

A counsellor will come and collect you from the waiting area and take you to a private room. During the pre-test counselling the New Start counsellor will ensure that you understand the facts about HIV and Aids and you will have an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on HIV issues.

The counsellor will also discuss with you past behaviours that could have put you at risk for HIV and you will work together to come up with a risk reduction plan. You will also discuss the test process and possible test results. If you decide to proceed to testing the counsellor will ask you to consent to an HIV test. You will then be taken back to the waiting area to wait for the tester to collect you.
